Earba Pumped Storage Hydro Project Update
Posted on
The Earba Pumped Storage Hydro Project has now received approval from the Energy Consents Unit of the Scottish Government.
The Earba Storage Project is a proposed pumped storage hydro scheme with an installed capacity of up to 1,800MW and stored energy of up to 40,000 MWh.
If and when this project goes ahead, it will have major implications for Laggan community as well as for the communities of Dalwhinnie, Newtonmore and Spean Bridge. The project will require up to 500 workers on site and a significant increase in heavy lorry traffic along our roads.
To mitigate the negative impacts this will have on our communities, the four councils have come together to create the Earba Community Alliance. The Alliance will be work to try and mitigate disruption, protect residents, particularly on the roads and negotiate with the developer on potential community benefits.
The project website can be accessed here.
